Advice on race and ethnicity limiting music?

With hiphop especially, I feel like if Im white/mediterranean, I get **** for listening to hip-hop because im not black. People ume i only listen to hiphop because i wish i was black or something, when this isn't true. I mean i AM a DJ and i do some amature beat making and production on my own. I really just love the genre of hiphop. I like the rappers like The Game and nas who sing abuot interesting things and I really like beats. I grew up going to NYC alot and the street culture stuck. I try convincing people im not trying to be black, but that i just like certain things. What advice does anyone have against these people who think music is ethnically/ racially confined?
