Why are all of the singles so lonely?

I've been single all of my life (23 years old). Why are there so many people who hate Valentines day? I have never celebrated it because I don't have a reason to. However, I am not depressed. Why all of the bitterness towards couples? This is meant for those of us who are single, and I mean no disrespect to you who I am referring to. Thoughts?
